Sony Interactive Entertainment

The client

This Japanese giant’s Interactive Entertainment division is behind legendary products like the original Playstation.

A global brand driven by creativity and innovation, Playstation continues to captivate global audiences through its generation-defining hardware and award-winning games. We supply it with all the printed documents customers receive with their new product.

The challenge

Sony wanted to progress from paper-based transactions by implementing Electronic Data Interchange (EDI): a computer-to-computer exchange of business documents in a standard electronic format between two or more trading partners. In short, EDI eliminates the need for manual data entry and reduces the chance – and cost – of errors.

Our Solution

Because we’ve used EDI since the early 1990’s, Sony chose us from its supplier list as a ‘test company’ for implementing EDI of their own.

We started by creating a project team with key technical and process people at both businesses. Using weekly Teams meetings, together we reached agreement on areas like file format and which notifications were necessary, for example PO changes and Advanced Shipment Notices.

MBM bought GoAnywhere software to support secure, encrypted file transfers. We also developed a program for processing files, creating back-to-back sales orders and producing outgoing messages.

Business Benefits

A full testing process was agreed, performed and passed with flying colours, and the new EDI system went live in July 2023 and still performs flawlessly today. The benefits of this digital automation have been clear:
